Combustion Metallizing

Since the late 1960’s, Wade Dynamics has been repairing worn and mismachined parts with the technology of metallizing. Simply put, metallizing is the process of spraying on molten metal to build up a metal surface. That surface can then be re-machined, ground or milled to the correct print dimensions.

This is a “green” process in that is can be used to repair a damaged part rather than scrapping it to make new. Metallizing can also be used as a protective coating. We have a wide range of different materials that can be sprayed onto your parts to repair or protect them. Here are some of the more common metallize materials:

  • Mild Steel
  • 420 Stainless Steel
  • 316 & 309 Stainless Steel
  • Aluminum
  • Aluminum-Bronze
  • Tungsten-Carbide
  • Ceramic
  • Heat Resistant Ceramic (5400° F)
  • Copper

HVOF

HVOF, High Velocity Oxy Fuel, is a state-of-the-art, sophisticated spraying method that is based on the same principles as traditional metallize. Using the latest technology, Wade Dynamics is capable of accelerating alloy metal particles to the supersonic speed of Mach 13, creating coatings that have a bond strength ten times greater than any other coating in the world. The particles sprayed with this method are extraordinarily resistant to abrasion, corrosion, erosion, thermal and chemical deterioration.

Traditional metalize creates a mesh coating of mechanically bonded particles that can be sealed to help resist wear and/or machined to restore a diameter. The HVOF system utilizes a liquid fuel, similar to that of a jet engine, to propel the particles at an ultra-high velocity. These particles then bombard the part resulting in “Impact Fusion”. Our HVOF system offers coatings such as Tungsten-Carbide/Cobalt and Nickel-Chrome/Carbide that are literally forge-welded to your parts and surfaces making this technology a vast improvement over traditional combustion spraying and plasma methods.

What this means for you and your parts is that Wade Dynamics can offer you the very best, state-of-the-art defense available against any type of abrasion and corrosion. This includes:

  •  Sliding Wear
  • Erosion
  •  Impingement
  •  Fretting
  •  Thermal Protection to 1600˚F

A few examples of parts we coat on a regular basis include: piston shafts, fan blades from highly abrasive environments, pump housings for chemical and sewage plants, cutting blades for plastics, mixer blades for cement and gravel companies and high temperature surfaces for furnaces. Our HVOF coatings can also be used in bearing and seal applications, as well as keyway sections. Even better, HVOF coatings are not just for protection, they can be diamond ground to a mirror-like finish.

Twin Wire Arc Metallizing

The processes of Twin Wire Arc Metallizing produces extremely strong bond strength as well as extremely high wear coatings. By feeding two engineered wires together, an electrical arc is produced. This arc causes the wires to blister and become molten. A concentrated stream of air then blows the molten particles onto the metal surface of your part. The resultant coating can then be finish ground to your print specifications or like all metallize coatings, be used as is to protect a surface.

Specialty Coatings

In addition to the many metal and ceramic coatings Wade Dynamics offers, we can also spray chemical protective coatings and apply brush-on ceramic epoxy type coatings. We offer these coatings for a variety of environments including:

  • Water Supply Equipment
  • Food Processing Equipment
  • Freezing Temperatures
  • Highly Abrasive Environments
  • Highly Corrosive Environments

Each of these coatings offers multiple benefits and may be applied in different colors (including safety colors) to meet your company’s needs. Please inquire for more information.
